As many of you know, I’ve spent the last two years working on a new book.
True to form, while I’ve been very open about the process, I’ve been tight-lipped about the contents.
That ends today.
I’m delighted to share that in a bit of a departure from my previous endeavors, I’ve written my first official full-length Romantic Comedy.
It is, in a word, amazing.
And I’m not the only one who thinks so.
A few months ago, I asked a small test audience to read through the story. Once I had the green light from them, I put together a book proposal, crafted a pitch, and got to work.
That work has not gone unrewarded.
Ladies and gentlemen, we’re now officially on BOOK WATCH.
Welcome to Update #1.
What is BOOK WATCH?
As I approach publication on this next project, however slow or fast the process may be, the Book Watch series will keep you in the know.
Pitching, publication announcements, launch team membership, release dates—all forthcoming book news will filter first through this site.
Every few weeks, I’ll be updating you on where we are in the process, revealing more and more information as we move down the publication pipeline.
And move, we shall.
I know this is a wild industry—that good books get passed over all the time—that really, anything could still happen.
But still. This time around, I’m not worried. This is my tenth book. I’ve seen enough to know that something is different about this one—and I mean that in the best possible way.
I’ll tell you more in coming days, but for now, just know this. I’ve never had a pitch gain momentum so fast.
This book has legs, and it’s ready to move.
You may think I’m sounding confident. That’s because I am.
I’ve spent the last two years living in this story, and when I tell you it’s good, I mean it. This is without question the best thing I’ve written to date.
I can’t wait to tell you more about it. Working title, premise, setting, characters—it’s all coming.
But for now, here’s today’s news.
BOOK WATCH UPDATE #1
As of September 2023, I’ve accepted an offer for representation from literary agent Rachel McMillan.
This isn’t a step I’ve taken lightly. It’s been a long time coming, and I’m thrilled to be working with Rachel and having her representing both this project and my fiction moving forward.
She’s the right person for this job, and I can’t wait to see where this partnership takes us.
Why this matters.
The fact that you ever got any books from me as an unrepresented author is truly remarkable.
Many book publishers—especially major publishers—only work through literary agents.
I’m grateful for every chance I’ve had to make my writing public, and I’ve enjoyed working with everyone at all the houses where my previous work landed.
Working with an agent simply opens opportunities for my books to potentially find a broader readership in the general market.
What this means moving forward.
First and foremost, I’m no longer in this alone. I’ll have a savvy professional representing me every step of the way, from pitching to contract negotiation and beyond.
Because I’m no longer doing everything by myself, I also anticipate having an easier time bringing you more (even better!) books in the days to come.
So watch this space. We’re headed into a new era.
I’d love for you to come along for the ride.
