People with December birthdays know the drill.
Our birthdays are so close to Christmas that one celebration often bleeds into the other, leading to a hodgepodge of birthsmas celebrations.
It’s easy to feel lost in the holiday shuffle.
Enter my mother.
My mother, the ultimate giver of specific and thoughtful gifts.
She would never dream of having one present do double duty or—likely worse still in her mind—turning up with a generic coffee mug or scented candle. (Unless, of course, that’s what the person wanted.)
For my birthday in 2016, she outdid herself, gifting me my very own framed portrait of Joshua Chamberlain.
Yes, you read that correctly.
This is a very specific gift—one that delighted me to my very soul—and one that only a true friend or loved one would have known to give.
Those who know us best give the best gifts.
They know our wants, needs, and desires, and meet us where we are.
In this way, the givers of the most specific gifts reflect the way God has loved us.
He knows our needs better than anyone. He's always known; and, better still, he’s already met the deepest need within himself through the person and work of Jesus, whose Advent makes possible the real birthday of our lives.
It’s almost December.
Somehow.
I’m not sure how this happened, but here we are.
If you’re looking for some fun and festive reading under the Christmas tree this season, look no further.
If you’re in the mood for a quick read with fast laughs, a pinch of romance, an unseasonable holiday hurricane, and more mentions of the word buttock than you might expect in your average holiday novella, Unseasonable is the book for you.
The ebook is currently on sale for $.99, so I really don’t know that you have any choice in the matter.
(Note: Unseasonable stands alone, but it is a spin-off from the Rachel Cooper trilogy. If you plan to read Collapsible, Flexible, and Unbreakable at some point, you may want to snap up the deal but hold off and read in order. Then again, the spoilers are very mild, and this will give you a great feel for the trilogy. So follow your heart.)
In the mood for a city-girl-escapes-to-a-small-town Christmas story that’s a bit less romancy and a bit more murdery?
Murder on Birchardville Hill has you covered.
This Christmas, there will be no silent night.
The ebook is also currently $.99. Download and enjoy!
